Woman seriously injured after SMART train strikes pedestrian in Santa Rosa

A woman suffered major, life-threatening injuries Tuesday morning after being struck by a Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit train near Piner Road in Santa Rosa. Police are seeking witnesses and information about the collision.

A woman was seriously injured Tuesday morning when she was struck by a Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit train near Piner Road in Santa Rosa, according to the Santa Rosa Police Department. Police said officers were called to the area of Piner Road and the SMART tracks at about 6:41 a.m. after receiving reports of a pedestrian hit by a train. Santa Rosa firefighters and medical personnel also responded. The woman was found south of Piner Road near the railroad tracks and was taken to a hospital. Police said she was treated for major, life-threatening injuries. Her age was not immediately available. The circumstances of the collision remained unclear, NBC Bay Area reported.
